The Steady Hand In the Midst of Choppy Waters by Bishop Roger Fleming

One of my favorite things to do is to go to where there is water. i especially like to go out on a boat to just kick back and relax.  When Susie and I got married (1996), we had the opportunity to go out on her dad’s boat.  Susie’s dad, was a great captain who knew how to navigate the waters and he always seemed to do it with great ease. I especially took note of the way he was able to navigate choppy waters.  Everyone on the boat, including me, was able to enjoy the ride while he maneuvered the boat through choppy waters with a steady hand and brought us back to dry land. He was
always calm and even when he spoke it was with a quiet tone as he asked us to sit down so that we would not be thrown overboard.

These experiences, with her dad, remind me of our relationship with Jesus Christ who also helps us to navigate our  life through choppy waters.  Life is filled with unsettling events but Jesus is there with us from the beginning, throughout the middle, and all the way until we have reached our final destination. It is because of this and because of God’s Word that we do not have to be anxious about any area of our lives.

Philippians 4:6 tells us;

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Within this verse I see an equation:

Don’t worry about anything + pray about everything tell God what you need + thank Him for all He has done=
EXPERIENCING GOD’S PEACE WHICH EXCEEDS ANYTHING WE CAN UNDERSTAND AND HIS PEACE WILL GUARD OR HEARTS AND MINDS
AS WE LIVE IN CHRIST JESUS!

WE CAN ALWAYS RELY ON THE STEADY HAND OF GOD!
