Back to Basic – Lesson 2 by Brother John Henry

Basics – Lesson 2

This lesson is a continuation of our lesson on “Back to Basic”

Each day brings us closer to the coming of our Lord to catch away His Bride. He is serious about getting His people ready for this special day.

I am going to express my thoughts on the pandemic before I proceed to the topic of this lesson.

This pandemic, in my opinion, is just a prelude of what is to come. It behooves us to start preparing to meet the Lord like never before if we are to escape.

The last five months have been rough for all of us, but only God knew what it would take to prepare us to get ready. What I mean by getting ready is what the Bible speaks of “Getting your House in order”. If getting “your houses in order” is confusing, think of it as expecting someone special, coming to visit. You make every effort to make sure your house is presentable.

If we look back before this pandemic, December 2019, we were looking for the beginning of a new decade and a great New Year. To our surprise, thus far, has been nothing close to what we thought. That should tell us that we are not in control of our lives. Our destiny is in His hands. Read more…

BACK TO THE BASICS BY BROTHER JOHN HENRY

Over the past few months, my prayers have been seeking something that the Lord would like to give to us, His people, during these trying times. What would strengthen His people to not succumb to fear and despair?

He is very aware of the situations going on in our personal lives as well as the rest of the World and cares very much about our wellbeing.  He desires all of us to come to as much understanding and knowledge of Him as possible to be prepared for His soon coming.

The answer I received, “remind them of the basics they learned from the beginning”.

Understanding the Basics is going back to the very beginning of what a person learns as one grows, naturally as well as spiritually. Remembering the day when He set us free from the chains that had us bound. Remember the Love and Joy we felt when He became our first love.

One may ask, what do you mean by first Love? For those who are reading this lesson and do not know Jesus Christ would not understand. Briefly, when we accepted Him as our Lord and Saviour; allowed Him to be first and foremost in our lives, He became our first love.

At the beginning of this series of lessons, my focus is to start with the basics of salvation. The Love, Joy, and Peace of knowing we were given a second chance to start a new life, in a new way.

We have traveled down many paths on this new journey, a new person, a personal relationship with Him, getting to know Him in a very special way. This was the beginning of our spiritual education and moral development.

Coming into the knowledge of Jesus Christ is an education in itself. The scriptures of the four Gospels are a call to learn who He is and a call to follow Him.

Life’s journey has many paths to walk on. Some lead to the top of the mountain where we find great and exciting experiences or deep down into the valley where we find hurtful and painful experiences. We all are faced with many trials and tribulations that teach us who God is and how much we should depend upon him.

Salvation comes to each individual differently depending on where and how Jesus entered into their lives. Salvation is the same but it comes from different perspectives in each one’s life. The basics steps are similar, in that accepting Jesus into our lives is the basis of Christianity.

First, we learned that we are sinners, and to avoid the penalties of sin, we had to change our lifestyle and allow Jesus to come into our wicked hearts where He begins cleaning out our inside first before the outside can become a reflection of him.

The transformation begins differently for each and varies greatly. The influences of the people around us play a very big part of our spiritual lives.

The Changing Seasons!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven;

2 A time to be born, a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones,  and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to gain, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;

7 A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time for war, and a time for peace.

Just like there are four seasons every year, our life experiences four spiritual seasons as well.  It is important to note that in every season that there are moments to celebrate and moments that are challenging and discouraging.  The most important principle to glean from each spiritual season is that the Holy Spirit is always with us in every season and that our relationship with Jesus Christ firm and unshakable.

Five Senses by Brother John Henry

Studying the Word of God: Our Mental Capacity:

On our Bodies are five areas by which we gather information, whereby we process this information and live by every day of our lives.  What are they?  Our five senses. Hearing from our ears, Eyes for seeing, The sense of smell through our noses, taste through our mouths, and touch through our hands; Our ears and eyes are the two main senses that work for us to form an opinion on what we hear and what we see. We all have a mental capacity of 100%, but scientists tell us we only use 10% of our mental capacity. If that is true, what,when and how do we use the other 90% of our mental capacity? Good question but only God knows the answer.

Let us just say we have a 10% conscious mind and a 90% unconscious mind. We study and learn the Word of God in our conscious mind.We learn all about the power and strength of our God and everything Jesus Christ did for us.  We know how to Praise and thank the LORD God for Jesus Christ, His Mercy, and Grace.

How do we handle our Thoughts and Feelings?  Where are our greatest Battles? Yes, our Minds.Which part of our mind is that?
Let us see where the Lord is leading us!   The unconscious mind. The majority of our ungodly thoughts come from our unconscious mind which we know is 90% of our mental thinking.

The Steady Hand In the Midst of Choppy Waters by Bishop Roger Fleming

One of my favorite things to do is to go to where there is water. i especially like to go out on a boat to just kick back and relax.  When Susie and I got married (1996), we had the opportunity to go out on her dad’s boat.  Susie’s dad, was a great captain who knew how to navigate the waters and he always seemed to do it with great ease. I especially took note of the way he was able to navigate choppy waters.  Read more…
